- Ireland is English speaking, with big tech, pharma and finance employers.
- From 1 March 2026 the Critical Skills Employment Permit needs at least €40,904 a year.
- The General Employment Permit minimum rose to €36,605.
- Ireland is not part of the EU Blue Card system and has its own permits.
For people who want to work in English without learning a new language, Ireland is the obvious European option. Dublin hosts the European headquarters of many global tech and pharma companies.
The permits
- Critical Skills Employment Permit for jobs on the critical skills list, now from €40,904 a year (up from €38,000).
- General Employment Permit for most other jobs, now from €36,605 a year (up from €34,000), usually with a labour market test.
These increases took effect on 1 March 2026, and the government plans further adjustments through 2030, linked to average earnings (Department of Enterprise). Ireland does not take part in the EU Blue Card scheme.
Where to find jobs
- JobsIreland, the official job portal.
- IrishJobs.ie and LinkedIn for tech, pharma and finance.
- Career pages of the large tech and pharma employers in Dublin and Cork.
Tips for Ireland
- Irish CVs are usually two pages, often without a photo.
- Competition for English speaking roles is high, so tailoring and networking matter even more.
- Rents in Dublin are among the highest in Europe. Factor them into any offer.
Step by step from India
- Check your degree. Have your degree and transcripts ready, and check recognition early. Read my degree recognition guide; the same documents are useful everywhere in Europe.
- Rebuild your CV in the European format. Two pages, results, keywords from each ad. See the European CV guide.
- Search where Irish employers post. JobsIreland and IrishJobs.ie plus LinkedIn and company career pages. My local job portals guide explains why this matters.
- Contact 3 to 4 people per company. Hiring manager, a team member, the recruiter and someone with a shared background. See the networking guide.
- Get the contract first, then the permit. In most cases your employer starts or supports the permit process. Never pay anyone for a job offer.
- Resign in India only after approval. Wait until your permit or visa is granted before you hand in your notice.
