- TUM is Germany's best ranked university in the QS 2027 ranking, at 25th in the world.
- Nine German universities are in the global top 200, three of them in Berlin.
- Heidelberg and KIT charge non-EU students €1,500 per semester; TUM charges higher fees.
- For your career, the programme, the city and your German matter more than the rank.
The QS World University Rankings 2027, published in June 2026, again put several German universities among the best in the world. Here is the German top 10 and, more importantly, what it means if your goal is a job in Germany afterwards.

How to choose, if you want a job afterwards
- The programme matters more than the brand. A practical master's with projects, an internship or a thesis in a company often helps more than a higher rank.
- The city matters. Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart and the Rhine-Ruhr region have the most employers. Smaller cities can still be great if your field is strong there.
- Universities of applied sciences (Hochschulen) do not appear high in global rankings, but they are very practical and well connected to industry.
- German decides more than rank. Most students who struggle to find a job after graduating struggle because of German, not their university. See how much German you need.
