The schemes

  • Pay Limit Scheme. Any job with a salary of at least DKK 552,000 a year in 2026. The limit is adjusted every 1 January, and your salary must be paid into a Danish bank account in your own name (SIRI).
  • Positive Lists. Jobs Denmark lacks people for, one list for higher education and one for skilled work.
  • Fast-track scheme. For employers certified by SIRI, with faster processing.

SIRI has also announced a new Collective Agreement Scheme from 1 January 2027. Check nyidanmark.dk for the details when it starts.

  • Jobnet, the official Danish job portal, and Work in Denmark for international candidates.
  • Jobindex, the largest private job site in Denmark.
  • LinkedIn and career pages in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense.

What Danish employers value

Direct, modest communication, teamwork and initiative. In interviews, show how you work with others and solve problems without waiting for instructions.

Step by step from India

  1. Check your degree. Have your degree and transcripts ready, and check recognition early. Read my degree recognition guide; the same documents are useful everywhere in Europe.
  2. Rebuild your CV in the European format. Two pages, results, keywords from each ad. See the European CV guide.
  3. Search where Danish employers post. Jobnet and Jobindex plus LinkedIn and company career pages. My local job portals guide explains why this matters.
  4. Contact 3 to 4 people per company. Hiring manager, a team member, the recruiter and someone with a shared background. See the networking guide.
  5. Get the contract first, then the permit. In most cases your employer starts or supports the permit process. Never pay anyone for a job offer.
  6. Resign in India only after approval. Wait until your permit or visa is granted before you hand in your notice.
