- Germany is one of the largest SAP markets in the world.
- S/4HANA migration experience is in demand.
- Client facing SAP roles often need German.
- IT specialists use the lower Blue Card threshold.
SAP was founded in Germany and has its headquarters in Walldorf, so the German SAP market is one of the largest in the world. Many SAP professionals from India ask me about it. The opportunity is real, but German matters more here than in most IT jobs.
The job market in Germany
Demand is strong for consultants with S/4HANA migration experience in finance, logistics and supply chain modules, and for technical SAP roles. Many projects are at German Mittelstand companies.
How much German you need
Client facing SAP consulting in Germany often needs German, because workshops with users happen in German. Technical roles and international projects can be in English. B1 or B2 German opens many more doors.
Work permit and recognition
IT specialists qualify for the lower EU Blue Card threshold: €45,934.20 a year in 2026 instead of €50,700. Without a degree, IT specialists can still get the Blue Card with at least 3 years of IT experience in the last 7 years.
What to show on your CV
- Your modules, releases and S/4HANA experience in the first lines.
- Full cycle implementations and migrations, with scope and team size.
- Industries you have worked in.
- Your German level, clearly stated.
Where these jobs are
Across Germany: around Walldorf and Mannheim, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and many industrial regions.
For salary data by occupation and region, use the official Entgeltatlas of the Federal Employment Agency. For current English speaking jobs, see my live job board.
My plan for you
- Lead with S/4HANA. Migration projects are where demand is.
- Learn German to B1. It is the biggest difference maker for SAP roles.
- Target consultancies and in house SAP teams. Both hire internationally.
- Show certifications that match your module. Along with real project results.
