- Switzerland is one of the hardest European countries for non-EU applicants.
- Permits for non-EU workers are limited to qualified jobs, within yearly quotas.
- Use Job-Room, jobs.ch, jobup.ch and LinkedIn.
- For most people, an EU country is a better first step.
Switzerland pays very well, so many people ask me about it. The honest answer: it is one of the hardest countries in Europe for non-EU applicants. It is possible for highly qualified specialists, so here are the right job sites and the rules.

| jobs.ch | Private | One of the largest Swiss job sites |
| jobup.ch | Private | French speaking Switzerland |
| jobscout24.ch | Private | General Swiss job site |
| Network | International companies in Zurich, Basel and Geneva | |
| Company career pages | Direct | Pharma, banking, tech and international organisations |
Before you apply: the work permit in one paragraph
Switzerland admits people from outside the EU and EFTA only for qualified jobs, such as managers and specialists, within yearly quotas, and only if the employer could not find a suitable person in Switzerland or the EU. The employer applies (State Secretariat for Migration). Switzerland is not in the EU, so there is no EU Blue Card.

How to use these sites well
- Be realistic about your profile. Senior specialists in pharma, finance, research and tech have the best chances.
- Search in the right language region. German in Zurich and Basel, French in Geneva and Lausanne, Italian in Ticino.
- Target large international employers. They know the permit process and hire specialists from abroad.
- Consider an EU country first. Many people work in Germany or another EU country, build experience, and look at Switzerland later.
- Never pay for a Swiss job offer. Swiss job scams are common. See my scam checklist.
For other countries, see local job portals in Europe, and read why applications get rejected before you send the next one.
