On 1 January 2027 Germany's statutory minimum wage rises again, from €13.90 to €14.60 an hour (Bloomberg Law).
Who it applies to
- Most employees in Germany, regardless of nationality.
- Working students and part time jobs, including mini jobs.
- Not to Ausbildung trainees, who have their own minimum training allowance. See my Ausbildung guide.
Minimum wage vs visa salaries
The minimum wage is the floor, not a visa threshold. The EU Blue Card needs €50,700 a year in 2026 (expected €53,100 in 2027), and the experience route needs €45,630 in 2026. A job paying near the minimum wage usually can't get you a work visa, except in some Ausbildung and recognition routes.
